Looking for short-term housing on Long Island – or even a long-term arrangement as an alternative to traditional housing? How about an option to Senior Housing? Are you a “Snow-Bird” and looking for a furnished place to spend the summer – close to family and friends here on Long Island? Over the years, I’ve had many requests from customers and clients for help in finding short-term housing on Long Island rather than committing to a long-term lease. The choices were limited. A popular option today can be an extended-stay hotel. No lease agreement or security deposit is required. You pay as you go.
The New York Times published an excellent article today (Sunday, February 6, 2011) that describes how an extended-stay hotel can meet the needs of guests with varied requirements. There can be many reasons, including: homeowners who are fire victims or undergoing a major home renovation, newly single, relocating employees, corporate trainees, sellers and buyers caught in between closing dates for selling/renting and buying a home. These are the typical reasons someone would need an extended-stay option. But the example of the senior citizen choosing an extended-stay hotel rather than a retiree living facility was new to me. For some retirees, it sounds like a good idea – certainly something to consider.
