The Huntington Town Board recently created a “Building Homes for Heroes Committee” to help Huntington veterans with housing and handicap-accessibility issues. The first local veteran to be assisted is James Byler, age 25, who lost both legs and 2 fingers after stepping on an IED in Afghanistan last year. This Huntington HS graduate and Marine Corps Platoon Leader Lieutenant was awarded a Purple Heart. The monies raised will assist in the renovation of the Byler’s family home in Huntington so that James can return home from rehab to live.
The first fundraiser is a concert March 26 at Nag’s Head Ale House, 396 New York Ave., Huntington at 8PM. Admission is $5 and all proceeds will be used for the renovation of the Byler’s home.
The Building Homes for Huntington Heroes Committee will hold a planning meeting on April 4 at 7PM at Huntington Town Hall. All are invited to attend. For more information about this meeting contact Councilman Mark Mayoka at 631-351-3175 or email: email@example.com.
